Elizaveta
Elizaveta is a multilingual opera-pop singer, songwriter, pianist, and producer whose eclectic career spans across genres and continents. Born in New York City to diplomat parents and raised in Moscow, she began her musical journey at the age of five. Her early years were filled with music despite challenges stemming from a significant head trauma and episodes of sleepwalking. At fifteen, she left home to embark on a transformative three-year journey across Europe, performing in nightclubs, studying herbal alchemy in Italy, and graduating from the Prague Academy of Music. She then continued her studies in Los Angeles, earning a degree in opera and music composition from the University of Southern California.
In 2011, Elizaveta signed with Universal Republic Records, where she collaborated with Grammy-winning producer Greg Wells to shape her “opera-pop” vision. Her 2012 debut album, Beatrix Runs, featured the hit single “Dreamer” and marked her as a unique voice in pop music, blending opera with electronica, classical, and soul influences. After leaving Universal Republic in 2013, she launched Flower Army Records and achieved viral success with her 2014 track “Hero,” remixed by Pegboard Nerds. This track’s popularity led to a remix competition and over 60 million plays on YouTube.
Elizaveta’s music has been featured in numerous films and TV shows, including Pretty Little Liars, Scandal, and Dragon Age: Inquisition, where she voices Tavern Bard Maryden Halewell. Her Russian collaborations with power rock duo B-2 led to chart-topping success and significant film placements. Her 2015 album Messenger showcased her self-production skills and included collaborations with notable artists and producers.
In 2019, she released her first duet album 目覚める理由 (“Reasons to Wake Up”) in Japanese with Scott Murphy, followed by a tour across Japan. The album was well-received, and she continued to innovate during the pandemic, moving to online live-streaming on Twitch and creating a variety of improvised music.
2021 saw the release of Songs of Sleep, a minimalist EP featuring solo piano compositions, and the operatic pop single “Archangel,” including a duet with now-Grammy-award nominee tenor Timur Bekbosunov. In a surprising turn, DJ duo Infected Mushroom remixed her track “Hero.”
In 2022, Elizaveta composed soundtracks for two films: My Invincible Compass, a documentary about children in institutional care in Japan, and Unconfined, a film by disability rights activist Victor Pineda.
The year 2024 brought personal tragedy as Elizaveta’s mother passed away in a tragic accident. This period of profound loss and heartbreak led her to pause the release of her anticipated dark industrial pop-meets-opera album, originally slated for mid-2024. Instead, she will release Liza, her first solo full-length acoustic album, named after her childhood name. This intimate album will feature piano and ukulele performances of her most personal songs to date, and will be released in late 2024, with a premiere at Hotel Cafe in Los Angeles, on November 23, 2024.
